God Does Not Endorse Open Borders

I have been pretty quiet over the last several months, but there was something the pope said yesterday that struck a nerve. I am not a catholic.
“A person who only thinks about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian.” – Pope Francis 2/18/2016
Now obviously the actual words the pope said are not as terse as the news media or Donald Trump has suggested, but there is an inherent problem behind them because of the purpose for which they were said. In context one must interpret that the pope was saying that building a boarder fence between the U.S. and Mexico would not be supported by our Lord Jesus Christ.

But here is what Jesus actually taught:
“Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.” – John 10:1 NIV

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” – Matthew 7:13-14 NIV
Heaven does not have open borders where someone may come in by any means that they choose. The only way to enter is through the gate.

The bridges vs. walls philosophy is an age old idea that has been turned into a statement of political correctness. It is the same idea that let fascism rise to power in World War II, because the Christians were too busy trying to “build bridges” to confront the rising evil. Sadly we are seeing the very same thing from the political left today.

I already addressed the problem of Illegal Aliens from a Christian perspective in an earlier post.

James :)
