Is it ok to tell kids that Santa Clause is real?

Beware… It might seem like just an innocent and harmless game, but lies and deception are not the tools that Christians should be using to bring up their children. Belief in Santa Clause may promote sharing, giving, obedience, and kindness, but you don’t need to lie to your children to teach those lessons.

If we tell our kids that Santa Clause is real, they will eventually discover it isn’t true, and even if the idea of being lied to doesn’t bring trauma, what good is that to our credibility? If we lie to them about Santa Clause, how can we ever expect them to believe the truth about God?

The childhood years are highly influential in developing a person’s character and faith. I can’t help but wonder how many souls have been lost from telling them an innocent lie when they were babies.

As Christians we need to honor our children with truth and honesty…

That does not mean we have to take the fun out of Christmas. It is still ok to watch Santa Clause movies, and read “The Night Before Christmas” to our kids. It is ok to sing “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”, and pretend that gifts were delivered by Santa on Christmas Eve. Children pretend all the time, and enjoy doing it. Just make sure that the kids understand from the start, that Santa Clause is only pretend.

Merry Christmas.

James :)
