Happy “V-h” Day!
What is “V-h” Day? During World War II, the day the Allies accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany is called “V-E” Day (Victory in Europe Day). Likewise the surrender of Japan which brought the war to an end in Asia is called “V-J” Day (Victory over Japan Day).
Today is recognized on the Calendar as “Good Friday”. Traditionally it is the day recognizing Christ’s death on the cross, which culminated into His triumphant resurrection on Easter morning. But if you read my “God Is Life” post from last April you will understand that the point of victory didn’t wait until Easter morning, it occurred at the instant of Christ’s death.
It was on this day that that Jesus “Conquered” death, hell, and the grave (Revelations 1:18). It was on this day that the earth shook (Matthew 27:51-53) from the unprecedented breaking of the chains and bars of hell’s captives (John 8:36). It was on this day that the veil that separated us from the Glorious Presence of The Almighty was ripped from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51, Mark 15:38, Luke 23:45). It was on this day that Christ charged into the very throne-room of satan, took hold of that loathsome serpent (Genesis 3:14) by the scruff of the neck, hammered His Mighty Arm (Psalms 77:15) into the devil’s jaws until every tooth shattered, pounded His fists into the worm’s guts until he vomited, and then flung the worthless fallen angel (Isaiah 14:12, Luke 10:18) into a puddle of his own slime, and stomped on his head (Genesis 3:15). Then after doing that, Christ dragged satan and all of his minions like dogs, defeated and humiliated, on parade before all of Heaven (Ephesians 4:8), and the devil was jeered and mocked by multitudes of angels that he used to be in charge of before he fell.
Today is “Victory Over hell Day”. When it comes to causes for celebration, you will not find a better reason than that in all of history.
Happy “V-h” Day, and Happy Easter!
