We Need To Stay Separate From the Rest

Several times in the news lately, I have heard reports about different religious groups working together for a common cause. Christians, muslims, buddhists, hindus, and new-agers unite to solve global warming, raise funds for hurricane victims, or pray for world peace. It all appears innocent. The people from the other religious groups are nice and friendly during these events, and they are for worthwhile goals that seem appropriate for Christians to support.

But beware, my friends. Do not be deceived. You cannot serve both God and political correctness. You are not part of these other religions. You do not ever want to be associated with them.

Rom 12:1-2 -- Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV)

2Cor 6:14-16 -- Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people." (NIV)

We do not share the same goals as these religions. Christ brings life. ALL other religions bring death, regardless of how beneficial they seem to be to the cause they support.

Jas 1:27 -- Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. (NIV)

Christians who participate with other religious groups are quick to quote the first half of James 1:27; after all, isn’t making this world a better place the ultimate in looking after the orphans and widows? But we also must not neglect the second half of the verse. Associating ourselves with some non-Christian religion will only pollute us.

It is ok to support a cause like world peace, helping hurricane victims, or even global warming, but don’t ever take part in or get involved with other religions when you do this.

James :)
